Woman, 64, suffers brain bleed after being pushed, beaten by stranger in Tuscaloosa Publix


A 64-year-old woman was pushed to the floor and beaten during a disagreement with a stranger inside a Tuscaloosa grocery store.

Authorities said the assault happened Tuesday at the Publix on University Boulevard.

The victim was knocked down and then struck multiple times with closed fists, said Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Capt. Jack Kennedy. The assault was witnessed by numerous customers and captured on video.

Kennedy said the victim and the suspect – who did not know each other – appeared to be in a minor disagreement. The suspect then attacked the woman “without warning.”

The victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical where she was treated for cuts, an eye injury and a brain bleed. She was in ICU at one point.

Investigators identified the suspect as 28-year-old Joseph Dion Little. He is charged with second -degree assault and was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail with bond set at $50,000.
